WHAT TO EXPECT

The Tana Quartet has been an artistic companion of the composer Jean-Paul Dessy since 2008, based on listening, confidence and a common quest for meaning through sound. This long-lasting link has led to a deep understanding of a language, through two scores for string quartet, an understanding forged through rehearsals, first performances, concerts, one that has been nurtured by the gestures, silences and resonances that pervade his composing style.
Jean-Paul Dessy’s music holds a special place in the contemporary landscape; it is subject to no school or trend but rises like a crest, bound by interiority and expansion, between spirituality and sound matter. Each work is a crossing, a ritual in sound that demands listening of the highest acuity, in which time seems suspended, returned as it were to its original density.
This disc is the result of this reciprocal fidelity, of this lengthy exploration. It is also the witness to this: that of a unique, vibrant work that continues to displace us, to interrogate us and to sketch out and to outline, within the infinity of the sound spectrum, a profoundly human impression.
